Over 1,400 village panchayats go to polls on February 3

Counting and results on Feb 5, 75 nagarpalikas vote on Feb 10
The State Election Commission Sunday announced to hold elections to 1,427 village panchayats on February 3. The Commission also announced February 10 as the date for elections to 75 nagarpalikas, mid-term polls in Talala nagarpalika and two seats of the Junagadh Municipal Corporation, besides by-elections to 15 seats of 11 nagarpalikas.
Counting of votes of village panchayats polls will take place on February 5 and results will be declared the same day. The results of the February 10 elections will be announced on on February 12, said the state EC in an official release.
The Commission will issue notification for the village panchayat elections on January 15 and for the nagarpalika elections on January 19.
The term of 1,427 village panchayats going to polls will be ending between February and April. As many as 14,270 seats will be up for grabs in these panchayats besides 1,427 sarpanch seats. As many as 34,83,307 electors will cast their votes at 4,281 polling booths.
The mid-term elections to 75 nagarpalikas etc will be notified on January 19 with January 24 being the last day for filing nominations.
Scrutiny of nominations will be done on January 28 and January 29 will be the last date for withdrawing nominations followed by elections on February 10.
In elections to 644 nagarpalika seats, a total of 1,73,854 voters can exercise their franchise.
In the 14 seats of 11 nagarpalikas, there are 37,901 voters, including 19,402 males and 18,499 females, the release said.
