Pak scribes tour city, visit Rock Garden

Delegates from the Lahore Press Club, who are in the city for the third Panj Darya Media Conference, held an interaction with Nek Chand, the creator of Rock Garden, on Monday. The conference has been organised by Chandigarh Press Club.

Nek Chand narrated his experiences of creating the Rock Garden on a piece of land that used to be a forest. Members of the delegation took a tour of the Rock Garden and saw the creations made by Nek Chand out of waste. He informed delegates that he was born in a village in Punjab that was now in Pakistan.

A member of the delegation, Saima, said that she was delighted with her visit to Chandigarh. She added that there seemed to be no difference between citizens on both sides and stressed on the need for more personal contact.

Earlier in the day, the 40-member delegation was accorded a welcome by the members of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal and the Market Association of Sector 17. The delegates were welcomed with flowers and traders took them to different shops to purchase memorabilia that they could take back home. Some of the traders who had visited Pakistan shared their experiences with the delegation.

Some members of the delegation also visited the Punjab and Haryana High Court where they were welcomed by the members of the bar association. They were also hosted by senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Punjab, Amarinder Singh.

The delegation, on Sunday, had taken a tour of the city on the Hop-on Hop-off bus of Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Corporation. They also visited Sukhna Lake.
