Panchkula MC earmarks Rs 16 cr for development projects

The Panchkula Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planning to spend over Rs 16 crore on different developmental works in the next four months. The works include the recarpeting of roads as well as the maintenance and refurbishing of parks.

According to officials, a major chunk of the money will be spent on recarpeting while funds have also been earmarked for other works, like improvement of the drainage system in the city.

"A number of developmental projects including re-carpeting works are being taken up to ensure the speedy delivery of services to citizens," said PMC Commissioner Ashima Brar.

"The emphasis will remain on strengthening the roads of different sectors, beautification of the main dividing roads by providing and fixing of kerbs and channels, fixing of grills and construction of footpaths. The parks in different sectors will also be renovated," said PMC Executive Officer, O P Sihag.

Giving the details of works that will be taken up, he said, "We will be spending Rs 7.83 crore on recarpeting by this year." The Corporation has earmarked Rs 1.7 crore on the development of parks in different parts.

Sihag said that even as no new parks will be constructed, old parks need to be renovated on a regular basis. "For the setting up of grills along the roads in different areas as well as a beautification, another over Rs 3 crore will be spent," he said.

Sihag said that the works that are being taken up have already been approved and the bids have also been floated to start them. "We hope to spend over Rs 16 crore by the end of this financial year," he said. The Corporation executive officer also added that among the works that are being taken up is also the cement-concrete works in the areas of Kalka and Pinjore. " The internal roads in these areas will be cement-concrete," he said.
