Pangaa Gang

Genre: Animation, voiced by Archana Puran Singh

Cast: Sudesh Bhonsle, Sweeny Khara

Director: Pankaj Sharma

Ecologically aware kids. Cute animals. Outlandish villains. Funny sidekicks. The combo should make for a film which hits the spot. But `Pangaa Gang', which has all of these characters, and a few more, stays firmly in the zone in which Indian animated features are stuck : good ideas, not executed well enough.

Greedy Katili wants to ruin green forests and kill all animals. But the Pangaa Gang, comprising Chintu, Rinki, Gatru, Mantu, helped by their furry pals Machmach and Dhuldhul, is at hand to stop her. The proceedings involve the by now standard-procedure supposedly smart-alecky, `topori' dialogues between the bad Katili and her cohorts ( `angrezi mein bole toh'), long-winded fart jokes ( there are other kinds of gags, aren't there? ), an item song called `an item song' ( please can we not have one of these in a film like this?)

The title track is zesty : `saagar mein daal ke shakkar fresh lime banaa de hum'. The film isn't.
