Parikshit stars for Merchant XI

Leg spinner Pariskhit Valsankar (4 for 26) starred in Vijay Merchant XI's innings victory over Dattu Phadkar XI in a second round league match of the 27th Sportstar Trophy MCA under-19 Selection trial tournament at the P J Hindu Gymkhana here on Wednesday. Shot out for 94 in the first innings, Phadkar XI was skittled out for 118 in the second.

Centuries by Ramanpreet Singh, Amogh Bhatkal and half centuries by Rahul Bharadwaj and Amit Kadam put Khandu Rangnekar XI in a strong position at the Parsee Gymkhana. After their side posted a formidable 417 in the first innings, medium pacer Sarabjit Singh (5 for 26) and left arm spinner Kadam (3 for 18) bowled out Manjrekar XI for a paltry score of 80. Batting second Manjrekar XI were 68 for 1, still 269 behind to avoid the innings defeat.

Brief scores: At PJ Hindu Gymkhana: Dattu Phadkar XI 94 and 118 (Prithvi Kakkar 30, Jai Davane 43, Parikshit Valsankar 4 for 26) lost to Vijay Merchant XI 239 (Yash Chavan 92, Valsankar 40, Karsh Kothari 3 for 66) by an innings and 27 runs; Merchant XI 6 points including one bonus point.
