Pawar cancels Sangli visit due to illness

NCP president and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had to cancel his Sangli visit and was flown from Kolhapur to Pune on Sunday afternoon after he complained of uneasiness due to a drop in sugar level, said NCP state spokesperson Nawab Malik.

Pawar, 72, was examined by local doctors who advised him complete rest. "A helicopter was fortunately available and he was flown immediately from Kolhapur to Pune. He has been resting at his residence in Modi Baug in Pune," said Malik.

Malik, however, denied that Pawar was likely to be shifted to Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai. Pawar was to address a function in Sangli on Sunday along with Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav.

A mob of about 15 armed men allegedly vandalised the security cabin of Indiabulls Finance Centre on Elphinstone Road around 8.30 pm on Sunday. Police said a security guard was present at the site but there were no injuries. The assailants did not enter the building and dispersed soon after. Police will examine footage from a surveillance camera above the security cabin. "We are yet to verify if the assailants are from a political party," said Dhananjay Kulkarni, DCP, Zone 5.
