PGI paper leak: CBI summons 10 people for cross-examination

With its preliminary investigations into the leakage of the question paper of PGI's MD/MS entrance exam revealing that the alleged "real beneficiaries" were all from Andhra Pradesh, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now summoned 10 people believed to be the beneficiaries for cross-examination by Monday. All these people have been identified by Gurivi Reddy, the alleged kingpin in the scam.

Although the CBI was able to nab the seven "dummy" candidates from the examination centres on November 10, it had failed to arrest any of the supposed "real beneficiaries".

While the dummy candidates were allegedly tasked with leaking the question paper using high-end technological devices, answers for the questions were to be transmitted to the real beneficiaries, as per sources.

One of the CBI sleuths said that Reddy had revealed names of 10 people with addresses. These graduates with MBBS degrees have to report to the CBI office by Monday. The CBI official said these people had come together to Chandigarh on November 8.

"First Gurivi Reddy bought SIM cards of one service provider but the 3G facility was not available on those numbers in Punjab circle. He again bought SIM cards of another connection with a 3G facility," added CBI sources.

When the CBI asked the alleged kingpin how much money he had taken from each of the "real" candidates, Reddy said the people he was trying to help had not paid him anything as yet.

"We cannot trust what Gurivi Reddy says. He has been acting smart since the very first day. The allegations made by him have to be cross-checked and only then can we ascertain if the people he has named were actually going to benefit or not," said a CBI sleuth.

"He (Gurivi Reddy) says that all the expenditure was borne by him. He belongs to a family of landlords as per the information we have received about him," said the CBI sleuth. The dummy candidates were to be paid Rs 2 lakh each for leaking the paper.
