PM to visit Japan in Nov for summit

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is learnt to have decied to visit Japan next month for the annual summit, which has been taking place for the last four years, sources told The Indian Express on Monday.

The PM will reach Japan on November 15. Earlier, there was speculation that the PM might put off his visit due to elections in Japan. Last year Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda visited India in December for the summit.

From Tokyo, the PM will head to Cambodia for the East Asia as well as Indo-ASEAN summit meet to be held on November 18, 19 and 20.

Sources said India and Japan will discuss the broad policy issues pertaining to foreign policy and defence issues. The formal negotiations on the civilian nuclear cooperation agreement has been stuck since the Fukushima disaster in March 2011. Although there have been some informal consultations since November last year, there hasn't been any progress on the issue.
