Police homeguard killed after collision with bus

A resident of colony number 5, Chotu, aged 50 had left for duty at 10 pm. One of the eye witnesses who had informed the police, Surinder Ram, told Newsline, "I was returning home when the accident happened. Chotu was coming from Colony Number 5 and was going towards Sector 44. A bus came from Sector 43 and was empty. The bus jumped the red light and collided with the motorcycle. As the driver of the bus saw me rushing towards the spot, he fled from the place abandoning the bus".
Surinder Ram called the police and registered a complaint. A PCR vehicle stationed nearby rushed the victim to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32. Chotu Ram succumbed to his injuries after a few hours.
Vijay Kumar, one of Chotu's sons, said, "The last time I had met my father was when I had come home during the winter break. After that, some of my relatives came to my hostel and told me that my father had met with an accident last night. When I reached home at 7 am I came to know about his demise".
Vijay is a student of Class XI at the Navodyalaya in Sector 25. He said that his elder brother is also studying and younger brother is in Class X.
Shiv Kumar, Chotu's eldest son said, "My father never stopped us from anything. I do not remember him scolding us." Chotu has been working with the Chandigarh Homeguards for the last 20 years.
Chotu's brother said, "I met him in the evening at 7 pm. We sat for an hour and had a long discussion. Next I got the news about his accident".
The driver of the bus is absconding and the police has impounded the Punbus Volvo bus which was abandoned by the driver. A case has been registered against the driver on charges of rash and negligent driving and endangering human life.
