The trend of consuming liquor in cars, which is catching up fast with the city's high class has become a nuisance for working women and elderly in residential areas.

Most eating joints that serve non vegetarian food are either selling or serving liquor on demand. Such joints have been mushrooming in posh areas such as Sarabha Nagar, BRS Nagar and Ferozepur Road. In these places people can be seen consuming liquor in cars. Not only this, they also leave the bottles on the roads.

Liquor shops have come up in Sarabha Nagar which has become a problem for women working in adjoining shops.

Kiran, who has been running a flower shop for the past 35 years in Sarabha Nagar said, "Everything was fine until a liquor shop opened in our neighbourhood. My daughters cannot come out of the flat at night and some people create ruckus in front of our shop. Even customers do not prefer to enter our shop after evening."

She said, serving liquor inside shops is fine but the shop serves liquor is cars and anywhere in the market area. That is not acceptable.

Complaints were made to the police but after few days of regular patrolling, no action has action has been taken.

People coming to eat at non-veg joints such as Chawla Chicken at Aarti Chowk, University Point on Ferozepur Road and chicken shops in BRS Nagar carry liquor with them and consume it in the car. A female employee of an automobile showroom on Ferozepur Road said, "It becomes difficult to return home from office at night as drunk people pass derogatory comments."

"Some eating joints do not serve liquor in cars but they do provide glasses and ice on demand of customers. To discontinue this trend of drinking in cars restaurants should stop providing these things," said Saurabh Singla, a resident.
