Police show interest in mobile app to curb overspeeding

To avoid accidents owing to overspeeding, software developer Sanjay Kumar Buragute has come up with a mobile application that send alerts to users travelling in a vehicle that exceeds the speed limit. The application works on the 2.1 version of android operating systems, which is GPS enabled. The application will send an SMS alert when the speed limit is exceeded. The application also comprises a panic button, which sends messages to three phone numbers selected by the user.

" Many die in accidents that occur due to overspeeding. This application helps keep a tab on speed limits," said Buragute.

"Pune police have asked me to submit a presentation after which they will figure out how to use it to monitor overspeeding vehicles. The speed guns are very expensive and difficult to use. The mobile application is an answer to this problem," he said..

The application will be made available to the public as well. The application will help parents keep a tab on their children while they are travelling by public transport or driving their own vehicle. "One can immediately inform traffic authorities or police if they are travelling in a vehicle that is exceeding the speed limit," said Buragute.
