Poll related incidents in Nagaland

With electioneering in full swing in the poll bound Nagaland by political parties including the ruling Naga Peoples Front and opposition Congress for the February 23 assembly polls, a number of poll related incidents have been reported.

Police sources said today that eight persons have been injured and properties worth Rs 89.8 lakh damaged in nine incidents in different parts of the state.

The sources said that between January 27 till February 12 the highest number of 19 incidents have been reported from Mokokchung and property worth Rs 86.5 lakh damaged.

Wokha reported seven incidents and property worth Rs 3.3 lakh damaged. Four persons each have been injured in Mokokchung and Wokha, the sources said.

Kohima, Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Phek, Zunheboto andKiphire have so far not witnessed any poll related violence, the sources said.

Implementing the directive of the Election Commission of India, the police have seized 47 unlicensed arms while 2306 licensed arms have been deposited with the police in differen parts of the state.
