Prabhudeva speaks about his Bollywood stint so far

Prabhudeva

Actor-choreographer-director Prabhudeva on how he came to dance, why he can't get past directing action movies and feeling at home in Mumbai.

You have two blockbusters as a director and now your film ABCD: Any Body Can Dance as an actor is doing well. You are considered a lucky charm in Bollywood...

I don't know if I am the lucky charm; I just think it's god's grace. He has been kind to me and things have fallen into place. After all, Wanted and Rowdy Rathore were both remakes. They had done well in the south and there was little reason why they wouldn't do well here.

ABCD is your acting debut in Hindi. What took you so long?

There were five to six occasions when I have come close to signing a Hindi film. But things did not materialise. I believe in life everything has a time. Maybe, this was the right time.

What made you take up ABCD?

The credit must go to Remo (D'Souza), the director. He told me that I had to be a part of the film he is doing. I really respect Remo and I said yes. At that time, I did not know it was going to be a dance film. But then I got to know and I was happy that this would be my debut. When he said it would be in 3D, it was the perfect icing on the cake.

Was it difficult dubbing in Hindi?

This is the first time I have dubbed Hindi dialogues in my own voice. It was quite a challenge, but I guess, it was a bigger challenge for my Hindi trainer. He taught me patiently and in the end I somehow managed. The accent, however, is still there, but that could not be helped.
