Principal thrashes Std 12 girl with stick for ‘her sake’
Parents of a Class XII student of a private school have filed a police complaint that their daughter was badly beaten up with a stick by the principal.
Unnati Upadhyay, a commerce student of Gyandhara School at Sadra in Gandhinagar district, was admitted in Gandhinagar civil hospital on Wednesday morning.
She was allegedly caught helping her classmate during their term examination on Tuesday afternoon.
Her parents, who are residents of nearby Halisa village in Dehgam taluka of Gandhinagar district, have registered a police complaint and written to the state Education Minister as well.
School principal Sudhaben Patel, while admitting that corporal punishment was meted out to Unnati and ger friends, said the matter had been blown up. "Unnati's case has been exaggerated. She was not the only one who was beaten up. Two-three more students were punished for copying during examination. She is a Class XII student and keeping her future in mind, I punished her. Nobody has come to meet me from the girl's side and I learnt about the case only when I received a call from the police station. Even I am worried what this issue is all about," she said.
Unnati's parents, however, claimed she cannot even walk as she is in extreme pain and has injury marks on her hands, legs, chest and back. "She did not reveal the incident until Tuesday late night when the pain became unbearable. When we saw the injury marks, we were shocked and could not believe that a women could beat a girl so mercilessly," said Deepak Kantilal Upadhyay, Unnati's father.
He claimed when he called up the principal on Wednesday morning, she accepted her mistake and apologised for it. "I have recorded the principal's statement on my mobile phone where she has admitted that she turned very violent and had beaten up Unnati. So far, nobody from the school had bothered to visit her in the hospital," he said.
