With their probe into an alleged bid to access mobile phone records of BJP leader Arun Jaitley pointing to a larger cast and conspiracy, the Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested two more private detectives in connection with the case, taking the count of those held to four.

Police said one of the private detectives had been arrested earlier for his alleged involvement in the illegal tapping of the mobile phone of former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.

A police constable, Arvind Dabas, and a detective, Neeraj, are already in custody.

The Special Cell has now arrested Anurag Singh and Nitish who run a private detective agency on Delhi's Barakhamba Road.

It is alleged that the men worked together to access call detail records of several politicians — one officer said they were looking at bids to access call detail records of at least 12 people, including politicians, bureaucrats and corporate bosses. Police said Anurag was arrested earlier in the Amar Singh phone case.

According to police, their investigation showed that Anurag and Nitish accessed call detail records through Dabas who used the account of an ACP and sent requests to service providers. It is alleged that Anurag used advanced software and encryption devices to get the call details and provide clients with analysed summaries.

A police source claimed that Anurag was handed specific numbers whose call detail records were sought. The information was passed on to Neeraj who would get in touch with Dabas. And Dabas would then use the ACP's official email account to send CDR requests to service providers.

It is alleged that sums between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh were charged from clients. The rates depended on the duration for which the CDRs were sought — the longer the period, higher the rate.
