PU Syndicate meet to consider two papers on ‘communication skills’ in every discipline

The Syndicate meeting of the Panjab University (PU), due for December 15, will consider the recommendations of the Academic Council that all the disciplines should introduce two papers from allied disciplines of their choice at Postgraduate level and communication skill be made integral part of the course.
Academic Council recommended that each discipline should have two credit papers on communication skills. This paper should have two units. First unit should be devoted to writing and professional skills and second should prepare the students for developing and sharpening discipline specific communication.
Academic council in its meeting held in June had made the above mentioned recommendations.
Moreover, the syndics will also discuss the matter to grant permission to initiate proceeding against Prof Om Parkash Katare of University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences on the basis of report submitted by CBI Jaipur.
Other issue that syndicate meeting will be considering is the proposal of the faculty of University of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET) to rename the department as 'Dr S S Bhatnagar UICET'.
According to the information, the UICET faculty on October 23 in a meeting held that Prof S S Bhatnagar, internationally known chemist, was closely associated with the Department of Chemical Technology, PU at Lahore. Thus, it was unanimously approved to rename the department.
Apart from this, the Syndicate would discuss the proposal of the Panjab University Staff (non- teaching staff) Association to enhance the welfare scheme of the non-teaching staff from Rs 50 to Rs 100.
Furthermore, the meeting would debate on the recommendations of the executive committee of the Panjab University Sports Committee (PUSC).
The committee has approved to make Dean Student Welfare as member of PUSC and sanctioned the appointment of tournament coordinator in each inter-college and inter-university games.
