Pune: Everest team member dies of stroke

A 33-year-old mountaineer from Bhosari in Pune, who was part of a six-member expedition to Mount Everest, died in a hospital in Pune on Saturday morning. Ramesh Gulve, who felt dizzy and collapsed after returning to the base camp following a climb of 1,000 feet on April 20. He had been airlifted to Pune after initial treatment in Kathmandu. Doctors said the cause of death was cerebro-vascular accident or stroke. An employee of the Pune Municipal Corporation attached to Katraj Snake Park, he and some friends had started a mountaineering club, Sagarmatha Giryarohan Sanstha (named after one of the names of Everest) and they were on an expedition to the Everest. "They had been planning it for the past one-and-a-half years," said club secretary Sunil Patil.
