Rahul summons Virbhadra, Himachal Cong chief Sukhu to Delhi

RahulA senior minister, however, asserts that Rahul Gandhi's meeting was part of the exercise he had started to tone up the working of Chief Ministers in the Congress-ruled states.

Even as the Congress is facing a crisis after its thrashing in the recent Assembly elections, the AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday summoned Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and the state PCC chief Sukhwinder Sukhu to New Delhi for a review of the functioning of the government.

The Congress returned to power in the state in December 2012 winning 36 out of the total 68 seats. The BJP has a strength of 26 in the House.

While the Chief Minister flew to Delhi from Shailli after his official function in Sirmaur district, carrying a well-documented report card of his government's 11 months, the PCC president travelled separately from Chandigarh to attend the meeting at the Congress headquarters.

During the past month, Sukhu had been quite critical of certain actions of the government including the state Chief Secretary's stand in the high court on 'officers of doubtful integrity'. After the high court refusal to consider the government plea, the Chief secretary promptly passed orders to the department to implement the orders.

Only Tuesday, the State Electricity Board shifted a dozen officers in its compliance to the court directives. Some other departments, according to a government spokesman, were in the process of finalising the orders.

Sukhu had also raised the issue of non-availability of ration to the consumers at the PDS outlets and non-transfer of subsidy on LPG.

A senior minister, however, asserts that Rahul Gandhi's meeting was part of the exercise he had started to tone up the working of Chief Ministers in the Congress-ruled states. The chief ministers are invited to give an overview of the initiatives taken in past three months and also submit their future projects for the next quarter.
