Rajnath ducks PM candidate issue: ‘no race’

A day after he was elected BJP president, Rajnath Singh Thursday sought to steer clear of the speculation over the party's prime ministerial candidate in 2014.

"In our party, for the post of prime minister or chief minister, there is no race and nor does anyone stake their claim. Who will be the prime minister or chief minister, either our parliamentary board decides or the MLAs and MPs select their leader," he said.

Singh praised the "good governance" of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and said he had a definite role in his team for his predecessor Nitin Gadkari.

"His role will certainly be there," Singh said, and indicated that Gadkari would be a member of the parliamentary board, the BJP's apex decision making body.
