Return of the Veterans

March promises to put the best of Indian fashion on show, with both Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) and Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) slated to take place within weeks of each other. The former will start on March 13 with a show by Satya Paul, that now has designer Masaba Gupta on board as its fashion director. LFW will be from March 22 to 26 and is likely to take the glamour quotient a few notches higher. It has roped in drape king Tarun Tahiliani for an off-site show at Tote on the Turf, Mahalakshmi, on March 21.

Essentially a ready-to-wear collection, it will have quirky kurtas, concept saris and asymmetrical hemlines. Other separates will include scarves, lungi skirts and dhoti pants made using voile, georgettes, silks crepes and cutwork jamdanis in hues of ivory, beige and grey with accents of peaches, tangerines and azure blues. Tahiliani's idea is to present a collection that is a distillation of his couture sensibility. "This is a fresh take on our India Modern separates that work well in the day," he says.

Another feature of LFW's Summer Resort 2013 edition is the return of menswear designer Arjun Khanna, who stayed away from fashion weeks for about three years. "I am excited and at the same time nostalgic about showing again at LFW. Moreover, since I am showing a line on my home turf (read: in his city, Mumbai), I am really looking forward to it," Khanna says, although he isn't revealing much about his collection just yet.
