Robbers ambush man, cut tongue as he raises alarm

A group of three armed robbers ambushed a man and cut his tongue when he cried for help near Dharamshila Hospital in New Ashok Nagar area of East Delhi on Tuesday night.

According to police, Madan Lal, a 40-year-old from Rajasthan, lives in the Trilokpuri area with his family and works at a private company in Noida.

"I was returning home from office with my salary in a black bag slung over my shoulder. Around 9 pm, three armed assailants came out of the roadside bushes near the Hindon canal close to Dharamshila Hospital and tried to take away my bag," Lal told police.

Police said the men told him to hand over his belongings without raising an alarm.

When Lal resisted and shouted for help, they pinned him down and assaulted him. "One of them took out a knife and sliced off his tongue," an officer said.

The robbers took his bag, which contained his monthly salary of Rs 7,000 in cash, and his cell phone and fled — leaving Lal writhing in pain.

A passerby spotted Lal and informed police.

Lal was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where doctors said he had suffered severe blood loss, but his condition is stable.

Police have registered a case at New Ashok Nagar police station and were trying to ascertain if the robbers had been tracking Lal for some time.

An officer said it could also be true that the robbers were waiting there to ambush any potential target, not necessarily Lal.
