Surat police took Narayan Sai to Gambhoi ashram amid tight security on Saturday afternoon. The police arrested three more people in the bribery case on Saturday. They were identified as Dhavesh Patel, Hasmukh Upadhyay and Mahesh Malkan, all followers of Sai.
They, along with the four people arrested earlier, were produced before the additional district and sessions judge by the Surat police to obtain 14 days' police remand. Sai is under further police remand till December 18.
Surat police commissioner Rakesh Asthaana has formed separate teams to investigate the rape case against Narayan Sai and the others, and the bribe and conspiracy case.
A special team, headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Mukesh Patel, left Surat city with Sai on Saturday for Gambhoi ashram in Himmatnagar.
According to sources, the alleged rape victim was reportedly kept locked up in Gambhoi ashram by Sai, after she tried to leave the ashram following "repeated sexual assaults".
If needed the police team will also try to take Sai to the Jaipur ashram for further investigations. Surat police had also contacted Himmatnagar police, seeking security cover while the probe is on.
A police team has also left for Ludhiana to recover the five mobilephones used by Sai and his aide Hanuman when they were on the run.
The other four accused in the bribery case — Ketan Patel, Uday Sanghani, sub-inspector C M Kumbhani and Dhiraj Patel — were produced before Additional District and Sessions Judge A I Shaikh's house at Judges Colony in Nanpura.
Public prosecutor Manoj Chaliyawala said, "The police have based the case on who arranged the money and from where the money came to arrange facilities for Sai during his stay in police custody and jail custody. The remaining Rs 5 crore, finalised by Narayan Sai with Uday Sanghani, is yet to be seized. Where is that money?"
