Second Innings

It is worth waiting for good things, says popular wisdom, but in this case it has meant a gap of over two decades. "We are making a sequel to the Haryanvi movie Chandrawal after about 26 years," says Usha Sharma, producer of the film, announcing the start of its production. "Chandrawal was released in 1984 and has done great business not only in Haryana but also in western UP, Delhi and parts of Rajasthan. The entire cost of the film was recovered from Gagan Cinema, Faridabad, where the movie celebrated its silver jubilee. We want to make something that lives upto the legend," says Sharma. She has hand-picked the crew Dinesh Tundwal, the director and script writer, JP Kaushik for the music and Laila Saini for the dance direction. "The film is to be made by Prabhakar Films, which also has other Haryanvi films like Lado-Basanti, Phool Badan and Jatani under it's banner," she adds.

While the movie will depict the culture and folk traditions of Haryana in its true spirit, "the language used will not be pure Haryanvi but modified to suit the audience at large and to be fit for multiplexes," says co-producer and director Nishant Prabhakar. With the movie due to be released this year, "Anybody who wants to be a part of the movie can contact us. We are looking for 30 actors, including the lead characters. The auditions will be held at Indradhanush Auditorium, Sector 5, Panchkula from August 27 to 30," Prabhakar signs off.
