For a month Noida commuters can't use the flyover to travel to Delhi.
The DND Flyway and various parts of Noida witnessed traffic snarls on Wednesday as the Kalindi Kunj flyover was closed for commuters going from Noida to Delhi.
The flyover is undergoing repair and the traffic police, of UP and Delhi, had decided to make the bridge one-way for two months — from mid-December to mid-January traffic was allowed from Noida to Delhi and the following month the traffic flow was to be reversed.
On Wednesday, the second part of the traffic restrictions were put into effect — barring commuters from Noida to use the flyover to travel to Delhi.
"There is a huge flow of traffic, which usually takes the Kalindi Kunj flyover to reach Delhi. The alternative routes are from Akshardham and ITO bridges or the DND Flyway. This led to jams on these routes. Choke points were at Rajnigandha Chowk , Sector-62 and several other parts of the city. We have extra personnel on the road, but due to the volume of traffic some stoppages are inevitable," a Noida traffic police officer said.
Officials of the Noida Toll Bridge Company, which operates the DND Flyway, said, "We have several measures in place such as multiple entry and exit cards, and extra employees who are collecting toll even before vehicles reach the plaza. However, the volume of traffic towards Delhi was close to double. There was a stoppage of at least 45 minutes during the peak hour traffic," an official said.
