Senate: Polls to 3 college seats held

THE Panjab University Senate elections for three seats from the constituency of the staff of technical and professional colleges was held on Monday. Results will be declared on September 12. The three candidates, who had filed nominations for the three seats for the constituency of principals of technical and professional colleges, were elected unopposed earlier.

In the staff constituency, there were only four candidates for the three seats. Two contenders, Assistant Professor Jasbir Kaur Chahal and Lilu Ram were from Government College of Education, Sector 20, Chandigarh. The other two were Assistant Professor Trilok Bandhu from Malwa Central College of Education for Women, Ludhiana, and Assistant Professor Vipul Kumar of K. College of Education, Abohar.

About 28 polling booths were set up for the polls, out of which 24 were in Punjab and four in Chandigarh. There are 584 voters in this constituency, from 77 technical and professional colleges affiliated to PU. Out of these, 13 colleges are located in Chandigarh.

Of the three seats from this constituency of the Senate, one is reserved for Punjab and one for Chandigarh.

In Chandigarh, polling was held at the College of Architecture, Sector 12, Government College of Education, Sector 20, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, and Homoeopathic College, Sector 26. In Punjab, polling was held in 24 colleges located in Jalalabad, Muktsar, Ferozepur and other centres.
