Singhal hails Narendra Modi, VHP says itís his view

Narendra Modi

CM had met the top VHP leader two days ago.

Despite his outfit's alienation with the chief minister, senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Ashok Singhal Friday openly backed Narendra Modi, heaping praise on him and hoping he returned to power.

Singhal was in the state to attend the three-day Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha at Chharodi Gurukul in Ahmedabad, where Modi had met him two days ago.

In a statement, the VHP leader said Gujarat had not only experienced development under Modi but its society too had become more powerful.

"I remember that during the Congress rule in Gujarat, Jagannath Rathyatra was attacked and the government used to impose curfew and stop the yatra to insult Hindus, who faced troubles celebrating Janmashtami also. However, during Modiji's rule, Hindu festivals and rath yatras are celebrated in a peaceful atmosphere and there is peace in all quarters," Singhal said while accusing Congress of making India the largest exporter of beef in the world by encouraging cow slaughter.

"The Congress-supported government had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court that there was no historic evidence available on Ram's existence. They did so to demolish Ram Setu. Today, the biggest obstruction in construction of Ram Janmabhoomi temple is Congress along with other so-called secular powers that are challenged by people of Gujarat who handed over power to Narendra Modi," he said.

"I have total faith that the people of Gujarat will continue to trust (Modi). Vishwa Hindu Parishad is determined to see that so-called secular powers don't come to power again," he added.

Asking Gujarat VHP to support Modi in the upcoming elections to keep Congress away from power, Singhal said, "I have full faith that VHP workers in Gujarat will continue to work, maintaining caution against those who want to divide Hindus. Many in the world are impressed with Gujarat's administration and the people of Gujarat."
