Social worker beats ‘alcoholic’ hubby to death
A 38-year-old social worker allegedly beat her 43-year-old husband to death for stealing money to buy alcohol in Cuffe Parade's Ambedkar Nagar area at 7 pm on Monday.
Police have arrested the woman, Sudha Chaudhary. The couple have two children who stay in their village.
"Vinodkumar Chaudhary was beaten to death by Sudha after a quarrel. She has confessed to the crime and said she attacked him with a wooden bat used for washing clothes because he 'stole money for alcohol'. Vinodkumar suffered head and back injuries and died while being taken to hospital," said senior inspector Janardhan Kharat.
"Sudha told us the deceased was an alcoholic. She had kept Rs 10,000 aside to renovate their house but found the money missing on Monday and questioned her husband, who told her he spent it all on alcohol."
Sudha told police an argument ensued and in the heat of the moment, she allegedly attacked Vinodkumar.
"She said she first hit him on the thighs and later on his back. She also delivered some blows on his head. After Vinodkumar began bleeding, Sudha ran out and told people what had happened. A constable, who was nearby, then called police. Vinodkumar was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival," Kharat said.
Sudha was produced in court on Tuesday and has been remanded in police custody until September 14.
