Soon MC to employ 400 more hands

The long-awaited process of recruitment of staff in the Municipal Corporation has been initiated. The civic body is all set to recruit people for around 400 posts in the first phase. A large number of posts in the MC have been vacant for some time.

The MC will be hiring as many as 319 sanitation workers for which the posts have been advertised. A physical examination will be held and those who qualify will have to undergo a skill test after which the final selection will be made.

In the coming days, technical staff and employees at other levels will also be filled up. The civic body had sent a proposal to the UT Administration for creation of new posts and filling up of the existing ones. The new posts were to be created for the departments that have been transferred to the MC, including primary health and primary education.

Apart from this, it was felt that over the years with new sectors having been set up in the city, the scope of work had increased. Due to this additional staff was required. However, the Administration has asked the civic body to fill the existing posts first before the creation of any new ones.

The civic body had also prepared its own service rules that entailed relaxation of age for those who want to apply. This was also rejected by the Administration. Currently the cut-off age is 25 years. It is opined that the staff members who are working in the MC on contract and have crossed this age will not be eligible to apply. For this reason, age relaxation is being demanded.

The process of recruitment initiated earlier had hit a roadblock after objections were raised by the councillors over the conditions.
