State Advisory Board okays detention of five accused

The Uttar Pradesh State Advisory Board has confirmed the detention of five persons who were arrested in connection with the recent violence in the area, the police said Saturday. The action against the five accused, identified as Vikram Saini, Mukkaram, Ghanshayam, Radhey Shyam and Israr, was confirmed Friday, police added.

The detention of the five accused, in connection with two cases in Muzaffarnagar and three in Shamli, has been confirmed under provisions of National Security Act, District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said today.

However, two cases involving BJP MLAs Sangeet Som and Suresh Rana are yet to be decided by the State Advisory Board. Seven persons, including the two MLAs, were detained by district authorities here for their alleged role in the riots.

Som, accused of uploading a video which reportedly sparked communal tensions in Muzaffarnagar, was arrested in Meerut on September 21. He is also facing allegations of having made inflammatory speeches.
