Nvidia Project Shield
This is the first major advancement in gaming ever since the Nintendo Wii brought motion-sensing technology to the field in 2006. While Razer gave a sneak peek to Project Fiona (a tablet with a control stick on each side) last month, Nvidia has pushed the idea a little further with Project Shield.
The device is a screen attached to a gamepad. The company has equipped it with its latest processor ( Tegra 4) and says it can play console-grade games. It has a high-resolution (1280x720) 5-inch display and can be connected to large screens via HDMI.
The good news is that the product can play both games designed for Android and PC. It runs on Android, so it can run all games on Google Play Store. The Shield also functions as a wireless receiver and controller. It uses this ability to stream games from any PC that runs Nvidia graphics cards (GTX 650 or higher). Users will need to purchase games on Valve's Steam service to play them on the Shield.
The company has not announced the price yet. It will be available in the US in the second quarter of this year, but there is no word on availability in India.
Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon Table PC
While most new gadgets seem to be shrinking, the IdeaCentre Table PC is heading in the opposite direction with what it calls the world's first interpersonal computer. This is a gigantic 27-inch touchscreen device that is targeted at families. The company says it is a multi-user, multi-touch, multi-mode device.
The Horizon can be placed flat on any surface and used as a Table PC. It has enough power to handle both gaming and productivity tasks. The screen supports 10-point multi-touch and ffour people can use it comfortably. The weight of the computer is 6.8kg.
The Table PC will ship with accessories, like joysticks, that enable users to play games. The company said the device will cost $1,699 (approximately Rs 90,000).
4K Ultra High Definition
4K is the future of high-definition (HD) video. The generally accepted definition of HD video is a minimum resolution of 1000 pixels. 4K, as the name suggests, has a resolution four times that of HD content. As the year progresses, we will see an increasing number of 4K TVs in the market. At CES 2013, many companies gave a preview of their products.
