This admission season, apply at St Stephen’s online

With undergraduate admissions in Delhi University colleges set to begin on June 5, certain changes have taken place in the admission procedure this year.

The application process at St Stephen's College, for instance, is expected to be online. "We have decided to switch to the online format this time. Printed forms will be available, in a limited extent, only for students with disabilities. For PWD students, the application process is going to be free of cost and they will receive counselling in the college," St Stephen's College principal Valson Thampu said.

According to the college, the reason behind this shift is to make the process easier for applicants.

Thampu said: "We want to make the college a paper-free campus. Last year, it was seen that a large number of students had applied online. It is more convenient. There are long queues of applicants in the college every year in these harsh summer months. We want to make all our procedures as user-friendly and environment-friendly as possible."

K M Mathew, Tutor for Admissions at St Stephen's, said: "Students applying under the PWD category can fill forms online. However, instead of being directed to the payment gateway, they will be required to take a printout of the form and submit it in the college. A copy of the disability certificate has to be attached with the form."

Although the exact dates for admission to undergraduate courses in the college are yet to be finalised, college authorities said admission might start around June 5. "The admissions in college might start a couple of days before June 5. But we are closing the registration process on June 19, the same day when the application process in other colleges ends," Mathew said.

While for all other colleges in Delhi University, students are required to fill and submit the common pre-admission OMR form for undergraduate courses, St Stephen's College, like Jesus and Mary College, is a minority institution with a different set of admission rules.
