TMC could face similar fate as CPM: Joshi warns govt

Senior BJP leader Dr Murli Manohar Joshi has said that the recent violence in the state could leave the TMC with the same fate as that of CPM's. As a warning note to the present government, he said, "The present government should take lesson from what happened to the previous government. If it doesn't mend its ways, it will have to face similar consequences."

He was in town to attend a seminar on Vivekananda and met the press to discuss the present political situation of the country. He slammed the Centre for rise in fuel prices. "It should be rolled back. It is an effort to mop up revenues to artificially bring down fiscal deficit. The fact is that there is a non-generation of revenue because the manufacturing sector has not picked up. The government has admitted that the GDP would hover around the 5.5 per cent mark in the current year. Last month, the manufacturing sector graph fell sharply and trade balance was negative, resulting in a fiscal deficit which the government wants to cover up," he said.

Referring to Sushilkumar Shinde's statement on 'Saffron terrorism', he said it was a very wrong statement to make and Shinde should tender an apology. "If there is any such proof, bring it forward. It is a ploy of Congress ministers and MPs to divert the attention from the growing corruption inside the party in every sector. In a way they were insulting the national flag because saffron is one of the colours of the flag," he said, adding that there should not be any discrimination in terms of colours as far as terrorism was concerned. "Offenders should be booked and innocent people should not be kept behind the bars," he said.

Talking about the two-day bandh, he said justified as the labourers' demands were, he didn't think a two-day strike was the answer. "We approve the labourers' demand but a two-day bandh should be seriously considered, given the inconvenience and loss that it will bring about."
