Top junior shuttlers to be seen in action in Khaitan Memorial
Some of the top junior shuttlers from India will be seen in action during the 22nd Smt Krishna Khaitan Memorial All India Junior Ranking prize money badminton tournament to be held at Punjab University Badminton Hall in Sector 14 from December 24 to 29. The tournament, organised by Express Shuttle Club Trust, was previously held in Chennai for 19 years and since the last two years, Chandigarh has been playing host to the event. The above mentioned tournament will be hosted by Chandigarh for the third time.
While the qualifying matches will be held on December 24 and 25, the main draw matches will be held from December 26 to 29. A total prize money of Rs 2, 000, 000 will be distributed among winners, runners-up, semi-finalists and some of the quarter-finalists.
Last year, around 800 players had taken part in the event. This year the number of entries have increased and around 1100 entries have been received so far. There are 681 entries in qualification event while 416 entries have been received for main draw.
A number of upcoming junior players will be seen in action. Junior national champion (under-19) Harshil Dani of Air India and runners-up Aditya Joshi, also of Air India, will be the top and second seeded players in under-19 singles category. Similarly, under-19 boy's doubles champion Hemanagandra of Andhra Pradesh and Gopiraju of Air India) along with runners-up Shyam Prasad (Kerala) and Shlok Ramachandran (Maharashtra) are some other big names taking part in the tournament.
Similarly, under-19 girl's runners-up Rituparna Das (West Bengal) and Poorvisha S Ram -under-19 doubles champion-are also taking part in the tournament. Also, Lakshya Sen, the 12-year-old current under-13 national champion who is a trainee of Tata Prakash Padukone Academy, will be the youngest player taking part in the under-17 age category.
