NEW DELHI: The Congress supported the decision saying such measures are needed for the country at times. Asked about the hike at a press briefing here, Congress spokesman Rashid Alvi said, "Sometimes, it is inevitable." Asked if Congress president Sonia Gandhi was taken on board about the fare hike, Alvi said, "If fare is hiked in the Railways, it is not done with the permission of Sonia Gandhi.
