Transport dept to return original documents

The Punjab transport department has decided to return original documents submitted for purposes of either registration or issuing of driving licenses to applicants after scanning the same. All district transport offices have been directed to follow the directive. It will be mandatory for applicant to present the documents to the official concerned when required.

'Pracharaks' should spare month for Sikh Panth: Akal Takht

Phagwara: The Akal Takht, on Monday, urged the 'pracharaks' or preachers to "donate time" by sparing a month every year for the Sikh Panth in order to take the message and philosophy of Sikhism to every house. Gurbachan Singh, head of Akal Takht, made the call while addressing the valedictory function of the three-day 'Naam Simran Gurmat Samagam'.

EC prohibits exit poll in Moga

Chandigarh: The Election Commission (EC) Monday prohibited exit polls in connection with the Moga bypoll between 8 am and 5.30 pm on February 23. An EC spokesperson clarified that displaying any election matter, including results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey in any electronic media, will also be prohibited during the 48-hour period that will end with the conclusion of the bypoll.

Medical report on 'rape' victim awaited

Jalandhar: The Amritsar Medical College and Hospital, where a 14-year-old gangrape vcitim was undergoing treatment, is yet to provide the medico-legal (medical examination) report of the girl to the police. The girl was allegedlly gangraped by three youths of her village in Jalandhar on January 28. In a surgery held at the Amritsar hospital, her uterus was removed. "We have received some documents pertaining to her health from the hospital but the complete medico-legal report is awaited," said SP Rajinder Singh.

Unemployed linemen to protest in Moga

Faridkot: The Unemployed Linemen Association has decided to start their protest in Moga. The 59 arrested linemen, including women and children, were produced in Muktsar court Monday and have been sent to Faridkot jail till February 22. Unemployed linemen were sent to jail on January 14 after an FIR was registered against them in Muktsar for raising slogans in SAD's Maghi mela conference.
