Tribals being instigated in Dangs: Cop

The police observer of tribal dominated the Dangs district has sent a report to the Election Commission (EC) claiming that tribals are being instigated by Hindu fanatics in the region. Amitabh Kumar Das, the Bihar cadre IPS officer, has named Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the report while saying that "constant vigil is required, though the region is peaceful".

In his November 26 report, Das has said, "The Dangs is a district heavily dominated by tribals. These poor tribals are instigated by the Hindu fanatics. They are encouraged by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi."

The letter has been marked to Vinod Zutshi, Deputy Election Commission in-charge of the Gujarat polls. It has also been marked to Chief Election Officer, Gujarat, Anita Karwal.

"During Modi regime, the Sabri Kumbh was started to misguide local tribals. The brain behind the Sabri Kumbh, Swami Aseemanand, is at present in jail in connection with the Malegaon bomb blast. At present, the situation is completely peaceful. But constant vigil is called for," Das says in the report.

Phone calls and SMSes to Karwal remained unanswered. But sources said Das's report has already created a stir and officials are tightlipped about it as it poses serious ramifications.

Das's report is largely based on the exercise of Sabri Kumbh organised in 2006, that was said to be a re-conversion exercise of tribals from Christianity that became a major controversy.

The second edition of Sabri Kumbh was supposed to be held this January which was called off. The reason is attributed to Modi's "Sadbhavna" fast here where religious leaders of all community had descended.

Das on Friday also accused Bihar's ruling alliance partner BJP of "pressurising" him by slashing his increment for two years for "not supervising a 2001 postal securities theft case and being indifferent towards his discharge of his duties as Patna railway SP".
