Sting journalism plunged to a new low when a television reporter, out to score with a sting of his own, had two women arrested after posing as a sex client and taping his conversation with them.

Police said journalist Rakesh Kumar, employed with television channel A2Z News, visited the Dwarka house of the women on Sunday with an "offer", taped his conversation with them and then filed a police complaint.

The women have been booked under sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act following the reporter's complaint.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Southwest) A K Ojha said: "Our officers reached the spot and verified the evidence submitted by the complainant. We arrested the two women on the basis of the evidence, which was recorded on tape."

Rakesh told police he received a "tip-off" from one of his sources. The first information report (FIR) quotes him as saying, "My source told me that a woman was running a prostitution racket from her first-floor apartment in Dwarka Sector-19B. I also got her two mobile phone numbers from my source (and) I made a call."

Rakesh told police the woman introduced herself when he spoke to her over the phone on November 2. Two days later, he called her again and she told him "good girls" had come. She asked him to meet her near a school in Dwarka.

He said after deciding on the place of meeting, he informed his cameraman and senior colleagues in the television channel.

Rakesh told police a woman colleague accompanied him to the spot where they waited for the caller. But she asked him to come to the apartment.

In his statement Rakesh said, "When I was walking into the apartment (complex) with my cameraman, she waved at me and signalled me. We went inside her flat and the woman told us her name. Later she brought another woman and she told us her name. There was another girl whose name I do not know."
