Two women among six held for murder of Gurgaon transporter

Police have arrested six persons, including two women, accused of kidnapping and murdering a 35-year-old transporter, whose body was recovered from Roorkee on December 10.

Police said Vijay Sharma of Rajiv Nagar, Gurgaon, went out from a marriage party after receiving a call on December 7 night, telling his wife that he had some important work and would be back in an hour.

"The family got anxious as he didn't return even after two hours. He left the venue in his car. His phone was switched off. They called his friends and colleagues, but couldn't trace him. Next morning (December 8), the family lodged a complaint with police," an officer said.

"We tracked his mobile phone. His car was found abandoned at a roadside hotel in Saharanpur. No ransom call was made. On December 10, we got information that a body has been found near the Ganga canal in Roorkee. The description matched the person we were searching," the officer said.

Palam Vihar police station SHO Kuldeep Singh said Sharma's brother identified the body. "Sharma was assaulted," he said.

Police arrested the main accused from Dharm Colony in the Palam Vihar area last week. Soon after, two sisters of the accused were also taken into custody. Police also arrested three more men for abetting the crime. The five accused were produced in court and remanded in custody.
