UP student killed during campus party
A BTech student was killed during a drunken brawl involving two groups of students at a New Year party in a hostel of Poorvanchal University in Jaunpur district Monday night.
Jaunpur SP Manzil Saini said the students involved in the clash are yet to be identified, but police are questioning the hostel inmates.
She said the students at Charak Hostel on the campus had organised a party to celebrate New Year. They were playing music and having liquor after midnight when some of them entered into a heated exchange which led to a clash between two groups around 1 am.
The SP said the students threw empty bottles at each other and attacked rivals with sticks. One of the students, Abhishek Pandey (22), suffered head injuries and was taken to the hospital by fellow students. He was referred to Varanasi, but he succumbed to injuries on the way. Abhishek belonged to Nandganj area of Ghazipur district and was a fourth year BTech student.
Saini said the police have asked the university authorities about the hostel warden allowing the students to have liquor on campus. Investigation found that some alumni were also present at the party.
