The Administration has decided to remove all the railway level crossings in the city. Work for constructing a rail under bridge at Mauli Jagran is already underway.
Another rail under bridge is planned at Manimajra, he added.
Further, he said that the Chandigarh Police has taken various initiatives on the law and order front and to curb crime. The intensive campaign against eve-teasing, and community policing initiatives like Safe City have been well received.
Major initiatives include the recruitment of 600 teachers, the ongoing construction of 18 schools in the southern sectors and periphery areas, completion of another smart school in Sector 50, start of works of the new campus of the College of Commerce and Business Administration and a programme for improving quality of technical education in Punjab Engineering College and University Institute of Engineering Technology through upgradation of labs and training of the faculty.
To augment the existing capacity and modernise the present infrastructure in hospitals, a six-storey OPD building in the General Hospital at Sector 16 is complete, an additional 50 bed block at Manimajra PHC and setting up of four new rural dispensaries. A cardiac centre is also being added at the Government Medical College Hospita , Sector 32.
To provide regular supply of drinking water to the entire population, six boosting stations are being set up to deal with the problem of low water pressure in the southern sectors as also the water works of Sector 52 are being upgraded by the Municipal Corporation.
Different projects have been taken up for strengthening the power distribution network.
To improve the power situation in the southern sectors, a 30 MW transformer has been installed in Sector 52. A policy decision has been taken for laying underground 66 kv cables to be in line with the modern city building practices and to maintain the beautiful urban scape of the city.
