If the number of applications received by the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) are an indication, city residents seem to be losing interest in acquiring fancy registration numbers for their cars. The RLA has received only 264 applications for its proposed vanity number auction to be held later this month.
The last day to book numbers in the new registration series, CH 01 AR, was on Saturday. The number of applications received this time is on a much lower as compared to the auction held in December, which saw an overwhelming response with over 400 applications.
According to RLA officials, while 106 applications have been received for 38 numbers, the remaining are single applications with only one bid for each number. This time, the maximum applications have been received for the number 0009 and the number 0055 with over six applications received for each. Even for 0001 and 0004 , there are more than three bids.
While the officials say that the less number of applications received this time is due to the fact that most of the residents prefer to wait for new models of the vehicles which are launched in March, another reason being attributed to the low response is that the auction is being held too soon.
Significantly, the last auction was held in December only, and it is not very often that a new series is launched the next month of the auction.
The Registering and licensing Officer Jairam said that the date of the auction is yet to be finalised and it is likely to be held in the third week of this month.
