War no solution, look at other options: Maya

BSP leader Mayawati on Tuesday played down suggestions of going to war with Pakistan and suggested the government should explore other options instead.

"I cannot say that war is the only solution. There is still room to find a solution. If the government is serious, a peaceful solution can be found," she said.

"War is not a solution for all problems. The central government should explore other options. It should not take any decision in haste," she said, responding to questions on whether India should cut off other bilateral relations with Pakistan.

She, however, criticised the government for its alleged casual approach towards ceasefire violations across the Line of Control. "The government is utilising its energy on issues other than public interest... the government has not taken a serious stand on the issue. Firing (along the LoC) is now a routine affair which has claimed the lives of several of our soldiers," she said.

Releasing the eighth volume of her political experiences, A travelogue of my struggle-ridden life and BSP movement, on the occasion of her 57th birthday, Mayawati criticised the UPA government for its failure to contain price rise and corruption.

"The electorate of this country is not only fed up with the Congress-led UPA government but has also been disappointed by the approach of the BJP-led NDA. The lack of cohesion within the BJP and the NDA has become a life support to the UPA. The electorate is fed up with the BJP and Congress alike," she said.

War would be fitting reply to Pak: SP

Mirzapur: In a sharp reaction to Pakistan troops beheading an Indian soldier, the Samajwadi Party on Tuesday said a war with the country would give it a befitting reply to its brutality. "The only solution is war," SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav said. "If Pakistan has to be given a befitting reply for its brutality, India should go in for war... This has been going on for a long time."
