Woman’s murder cracked, lover held

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Saturday cracked the murder of a 28-year-old woman in Sewri, on October 24, with the arrest of a man who was her husband's friend and was allegedly having an affair with her.

The accused Shamsher Nawaz Ali, a resident of Bhiwandi and employed as a truck driver, was picked up from Dharavi by the Property Cell of the Crime Branch, and has been handed over to the Sewri police for further investigations.

Police said around 7.30 pm on October 24, Samina Khan, who lived in a slum in the Kavla Bunder area of Sewri, was having a conversation with a man near the Saibaba temple, located a few metres from the police station.

After a while, the man suddenly took out a country-made revolver and shot her in the head, before fleeing the spot.

Residents of the area rushed Samina to JJ Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

"Shamsher who was working with Samina's husband, wanted Samina to leave her husband. Angered by the fact that she was not doing so, Shamsher shot Samina," said a Crime Branch officer.
