Woman's body in bag: Victimís live-in partner held

A 28-year-old labourer, Pravin Thakre of Pimpri, was arrested by a Government Railway Police (GRP) team from Pune for allegedly killing his live-in partner Roshni (25) and stuffing her body in a suitcase that he left at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station, Mumbai.

On September 26, the body of a woman was found stuffed in a large travel bag on platforms 8 and 9 of CST. The bag was found near the Sinhagad Express around 10.30 am on the day. CCTV footage showed an unidentified man alighting from the train, leaving the bag on the platform and walking away. This was the third such case in the past year-and-a-half.

On a tip-off, a GRP team from Pune arrested Thakre of Chikhli in Pimpri and are on the lookout for his accomplice.

Pratapsinh Patankar, superintendent, GRP said, "Our teams were working on the CCTV footage and the clues about the bag in which the body was found."

During interrogation, Thakre revealed that the body was that of Roshni. The two had been living together but were not married. They have a four-year-old child, police said.

"The two used to quarrel frequently. He strangulated her on September 26 and stuffed the body into a suitcase. He had taken the help of another person. We are looking for him," said inspector Suryakant Noukudkar, GRP.

Thakre has been handed over to Mumbai police. The probe so far had indicated that the bag was first spotted in compartment number five, which is opened for passengers boarding from Pimpri-Chinchwad.
