Workers storm Cong HQ, Gohil faces heat

Workers storm Cong HQ

Hundreds of Congress workers from Asarwa assembly constituency stormed into the state party office on Thursday evening and gheraoed Congress Legislature Party leader Shaktisinh Gohil and also damaged several office windows.

The workers were protesting against the party having reportedly confirmed the nomination of former IPS officer Rajan Priyadarshi from Asarwa (SC-reserved) where retired bureaucrat R M Patel is contesting on a BJP ticket.

The workers stormed into the media hall soon after Gohil finished his media briefing. Shouting slogan "Asarwa bachao, Congress bachao", they walked up to the stage where Gohil and party spokespersons Manish Doshi and Hriday Buch were sitting.

Seeing the mood of the workers, Gohil tried to leave the room but it was really a difficult situation as the protesters blocked the two doors of the hall. Doshi, Buch and other Congress functionaries formed a protective wall around Gohil to escort him safely. He was followed up by the protesters up to his car parked outside.

This was despite the fact that the party has yet not announced officially the candidate for Asarwa. Gohil told reporters that the names of candidates for the remaining Phase II seats, including Asarwa, were to be decided by the party high command in Delhi and state party chief Arjun Modhwadia was there.
