Bollywood actresses are constantly under the scanner especially when it comes to their fashion choices. Sometimes they ace the style quotient, while there are times when they do tend to disappoint just a tad. However, we have a few of our favourites from 2013.
Deepika Padukone: Apart from totally being on top of her game when it came to films this year, Deepika Padukone has us impressed with her various fashion avatars. Whether it's a formal evening gown look or a casual tank paired with shorts and Oxford shoes, this B-Town hottie is simply killing it, getting it right every single time, complete with the flawless makeup and hair-do. Given her tall graceful figure, she introduced the trend of the long anarkali kurtis during the promotions of 'Chennai Express', which caught on immediately. Outfits that absolutely caught our eye were Deepika’s feminine, flirty red one shoulder Jade gown for the Hello! Awards. Another winner was the pearl white Anamika Khanna sheer sari that had her looking elegant and ethereal.
Sonam Kapoor: This Kapoor lass is solely responsible for creating a certain style awareness in Bollywood. It's only after her entry into the glam world, that other actresses started to pay more attention to what they wore. Sonam Kapoor is stylish, chic, and feminine and she sure knows her designer brands well. Her love for experimentation sets her apart. She impressed all with her choice of gowns at the Cannes earlier this year.
However, the floral printed strapless Dolce & Gabbana that the actress wore to The 'Jeune & Jolie' screening was our all-time favourite. Another outfit that we loved was Sonam's spin on the nine yards as she donned a soft pink Atsu sari with a black net-sleeved blouse that seemed so highly vintage-inspired.
Katrina Kaif: One of the top actresses in the industry today, Katrina Kaif is beautiful and sure does justice to anything she wears. Katrina doesn't shy away from showing off her long sexy pins in figure-flattering numbers and pretty feminine dresses.
There were a few wins this year though – the pink flair short number Katrina wore to the ‘Dhoom 3’ song launch was a good pick for the actress. Another favourite was the blue fitted Victoria Beckham dress that Katrina wore to a phone launch. However, we wish she’d do something more exciting to her hair. Maybe 2014 will be a good start.
Kangana Ranaut: Hailing from a small town, Kangana Ranaut herself has admitted to what importance she has given to become fashion conscious, in trying to create a niche for herself. This beauty has surpassed other actresses from the industry with her style and classy choices. From donning baby doll dresses, elegant evening gowns or Greek styled outfits, Kangana carries it all off with élan.
She is not afraid to try out different hair-dos. We picked what we thought were the actress' best looks – Kangana was the epitome of old-charm style in a pink flair number with pearls and black number at the GQ Awards 2013. Another favourite was a nude-coloured Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna sheath dress at a calendar launch.
Priyanka Chopra: Priyanka Chopra is a true diva in every way. With a body to die for, the songstress flaunts her slender frame in bodycon minis and cropped tops. She maybe an international name, but Priyanka Chopra is not afraid to go 'desi'. She is the actress who added oomph to the sari with her look in 'Dostana'. Even off-screen Priyanka Chopra dons the nine yards gracefully and no doubt comes off looking sexy. However, her greatest accessory is her oozing self-confidence. Priyanka’s chic and fun look in a cropped top paired with a denim shrug, pencil skirt and bright neon pumps made it to our favourite looks for the actress.
Another was this sizzling Nikhil Thampi high-low shirt paired with black shorts and animal print spiked Louboutin heels.
Kajol: Kajol has certainly come a long way from the vivacious actress who cared two hoots about her look to the stylish and womanly mother of two. The actress has made evolved from her 90s look and is back with a bang looking fab and beautiful. Most events these days see Kajol flaunting her style be in tailored suits and stilettos, glamorous evening gowns or gorgeous desi outfits. The actress stole the show in a monochrome fan-print Masaba sari at her sister Tanishaa's play 'The Verdict'. Another winner was the cheery yellow lace Pankaj and Nidhi gown that Kajol donned at the HT Leadership Summit.
Kareena Kapoor Khan: This is one actress, who created waves with her size zero but we're glad she's healthier looking now. Her glowing complexion helps her carry off anything be it western outfits or Indian looks. We love to see her in colour and sleek pulled back hair-dos that show off her chiseled facial features. Kareena Kapoor is also one actress who shows us that women in the limelight are still humans and there are days that they are just in no mood to doll up.
On days like these, Kareena opts for slouchy pants or tee shirts, especially while travelling. Our favourite looks of Mrs. Kapoor – the colour-block sari by Sougat Paul that Kareena wore for a magazine launch and the hot black Ports 1961 dress with Tom Ford sandals that she wore for the promotion of 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein'.
Neha Dhupia: This former beauty queen is another actress we simply had to add to our string of this year's best dressed. Neha is aware of what suits her body and is not afraid to flaunt her ample curves. Despite not having a typical petite, slender frame, Neha Dhupia comes off looking classy and beautiful in whatever she chooses to wear. She normally highlights her Indian looks with stunning statement neckpieces.
We loved Neha in a telephone print black sari with a green border and eye-grabbing neckpiece that the actress draped for Baisakhi celebrations. The voluptuous actress showed off her curves in a stunning blue cutout Roberto Cavalli gown for this year’s GQ Awards.
Karisma Kapoor: Karisma Kapoor and Malaika Arora Khan are labeled one of the most well-dressed women in Bollywood. Karisma has come a long way from her bushy eyebrows and huge hair days onscreen to a slender, stylish and effortless beautiful woman. Seen often in Indian wear, Karisma mostly picks creations by her favorite Indian designer – Manish Malhotra. Formal dos see her in dresses, pencil skirts, while her casual look is accessorized with a scarf or sunglasses. Karisma won our approval in this chic formal look with a grey top and black pencil skirt paired with peep-toes. Our next favourite was a white sheer kurta with a bright orange and pink bottom paired with deep purple salwar pants.
Malaika Arora Khan: Our next yummy mummy to make the list is none other than B-Town hottie Malaika Arora Khan. The actress doesn't shy of showing off her petite frame in mini dresses, maxis or stunning evening gowns. When it comes to a party night out, we like Malaika's pick of an LBD with boots and chained bag. Whereas for a dressy night, Malaika stunned in a tasseled dress by Shehlaa at the Miss Diva 2013 beauty pageant.
Vidya Balan: Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is known for her love for desi outfits especially saris. The actress, who made her debut at the 66th Cannes Film Festival as the jury member this year, wowed us with her choice of traditional wear, be it her lehengas or saris. Two of her looks made it our list of favourites: For the premiere of ‘The Great Gatsby’, Vidya was beautiful in a white lehenga and black embellished blouse where she dramatised her look by covering her head with the dupatta. Her next winning look was her maroon lehenga and full-sleeved choli complete with a with a black bindi, neatly tied bun and jhumkas.
