Suryanelli case: Kerala Assembly adjourned after protests
Posted on Thu , 7 Feb '13
The CPI (M) led LDF today raised the issue of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P. J. Kurien in connection with the Suryanelli rape case both inside and outside the state Assembly, forcing an adjournment of the house. LDF members accused the Congress-led UDF government of trying to avoid further investigation in the 1996 case. They first walked out of the house and later disrupted proceedings. Meanwhile, members belonging to the Students Federation of India protested against Kurien outside the Kerala Assembly. Earlier, rejecting the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)'s demand for his resignation over alleged involvement in the case, Kurien said that the demand for a reinvestigation into the case is a political conspiracy against him.
